I was absolutely delighted with the performance of my team in our 55-0 National Intermediate Cup win against Consett on Saturday.
In any game of rugby, to get nine tries and also nil a team is a superb effort, and the fact that we’ve done it in such a big game is great for us.
It is no coincidence though that we had a lot of first-team players at training and we then put in a superb performance.
To go from our static performance against Bridlington the week before to show the creativity we did on Saturday was very pleasing.
We now have to play Medicals on February 14 with a huge chance of going through.
We’ll have to travel to Newcastle for that one so it will be interesting, but that’s the great thing about this cup competition, it’s exciting and can take us anywhere.
Before that though we have a very tough game againsthigh-flying Doncaster Phoenix on Saturday.
They are top of the table for a reason.
Even when they have been in close games they seem to have what it takes as a side to pull together and get over the finishing line.
There is absolutely no doubt that we will need to be at our very best to go there and get a result, but there is no reason why we can’t do so.
We have a talented bunch of players at this club and we’ve shown glimpses of what we can do.
We will miss the presence of Nick Ingham this Saturday after his sending off against Consett.
It was a pretty strange one as I thought there was no malice in his tackle.
He should have been put in the sin-bin, yes, but to show him a red card was slightly odd.
Still, we have the players to trouble Doncaster.
