Saturday’s victory at Bradford Salem was incredibly pleasing for me - the guys put in a really good performance.
It was a very solid defensive effort from the guys - to cancel out any team in this league is a good effort.
We retained the ball much better in the second half and the players listened to the instructions we gave them at half-time, which was pleasing for me.
We cut out the mistakes we’d made in the first half, stifled them brilliantly and put a lot of pressure on them.
Their number 15 was looking pretty dangerous in the first half and we told the guys to start putting in crossfield kicks to nullify him and that worked well.
The way the guys took the information on board and went out and implemented the plans was great to watch.
Our pack were immense, it was great to have Phil Watson back with us and young Aaron Wilson acquitted himself superbly when he came on for the last 20 minutes.
It’s a blow that we don’t have Phil available this Saturday, it’s disappointing not to have someone of his quality with us for what will undoubtedly be a tough game at home to Beverley.
It’ll be interesting to see what they offer.
Beverley are a good club and usually field strong teams, so I’m sure they’ll come with a good outfit on Saturday.
The guys will need to be at their best if we’re going to win the game, and we’ll be working hard in training to make sure we’re ready.
