It’s been a slow process for Jones and his side at Silver Royd, but last week’s announcement from the RFU was the perfect news and Jones is feeling extremely positive.

“We’ve always tried to be as positive as possible especially with all the uncertainty that has been surrounding the rugby season,” said Jones.

“For the players, it’s important that they have a pot at the end of the rainbow and hopefully the most recent announcement will provide the perfect motivation.

“We’re now reaping the rewards of all the hard work that the RFU have put in and all the clubs in our area are really keen to play some competitive rugby.”

Jones’ side look set to be travelling to the Gannock to play rivals Malton & Norton RUFC and he is hoping that the players will relish the opportunity when the season gets underway.

“Every week will be a massive game and we’re really lucky to be playing against the local sides around us,” he added.

“I’m sure the boys will be absolutely buzzing to get started and play every week against a different local team.”

The former player has confirmed that the majority of his squad will be available but some may miss out due to changing circumstances.

He added: “We’ve lost a few lads, but that will just give other players an opportunity to perform and represent the club.

“We’re not just going to give jerseys out for fun, the lads will have to work hard and prove themselves over the next few weeks.”

Although the rugby will take centre stage at Silver Royd, Jones agrees that it’s going to be a real club effort to ensure that everything is in place for when the season begins.

“The RFU are going to be really strict with the rules and regulations and hopefully all the clubs and supporters buy into the process.

“It’s vital for the players to be able to play competitive rugby but we are extremely keen to ensure that all fans and family members will be present to watch the games.”

Last week’s RFU statement confirmed clubs are now able to resume adapted training for 15-a-side contact rugby.

“Clubs can resume friendly fixtures from Friday December 18 - this is to allow players to prepare properly and safely, having not been training over the past month,” the statement continued.

“Clubs can still play Ready4Rugby if they have matches coming up.

“There is no obligation to play adapted 15-a-side contact fixtures.”
