PHIL WATSON: Kiwis making a big impact at club

There were frustrations evident again on Saturday following our 15-11 win at home to a strong Dinnington outfit.

We started superbly, but yet again we seemed to get ahead and then take our foot off the gas somewhat.

I was once again really impressed by our two new Kiwi signings, Blake Nightingale and Benji Cottle.

Both of them were superb again on Saturday and are making a big difference for us this season.

Blake does a lot of work that goes unseen and Benji is just a class above.

If you give him any space he will take advantage and he’s away.

But having said that, there were a few players who impressed me on Saturday.

Graeme Jeffrey was superb despite battling man flu, Matty Else was solid and Charlie Hoggard had another outstanding game after his man of the match display last week.

I’ve been trying to get Charlie in the first team all season and now that he’s getting his chance, he’s not letting anyone down.

We’re the only team still unbeaten in Yorkshire One and we’ve got the best defensive record in the league too, so there is plenty for us to be positive about at the momen t.

Watching from the sidelines it was easy to see that the guys all know exactly where they’re supposed to be and are in tune with Lee Douglas’ game plan.

We’ll need to be at our best to maintain our run when we travel to Selby on Saturday. They’re supposedly a good, young outfit.
