Phil Watson: We need to be more clinical

Although Huddersfield YMCA are a good side and they deserved their win on Saturday, the 38-13 scoreline doesn’t reflect the run of the game.

They scored a couple of tries against the run of play that cost us, and when you’re out of form, the rub of the green tends to go away.

Like I said, they deserved to win the game.

We lacked a bit of composure in key areas and they were a lot more clinical than us at the important moments when it mattered.

That is something that we need to look at for next season I think.

It’s something you notice from the teams at the top end of Yorkshire One and the teams in the league above, that bit of cutting edge and extra composure that gets them over the line when they really need to.

We need to move on from Saturday and focus our attentions fully on our trip to face Pontefract this weekend.

Judging from our two games against them this season, I’m quietly confident of going there and getting a positive result.

We beat them in the Yorkshire Shield at their spot and also at Silver Royd in the league, and we are obviously looking to make it a hat-trick of wins when we go there on Saturday.

They will clearly be out to avenge those two previous defeats this week and it is upto us not to let them get on top of us.

If any of my ardent readers have dabbled with the idea of trying rugby, then please do come up to the club and get involved.

We run three teams at the club, sometimes four, and are always on the hunt for new players of any ability or experience.

Anyone can get started in the sport, regardless if you’ve even held a rugby ball before.

I’d be more than happy to speak to anyone who wants to get started or is interested in finding out more.

I’ve also been doing the Baron’s Health & Fitness boot camp with sports editor Andy Bloomfield.

He seems to be doing well at the moment, plenty of time left though.
