Scarborough RUFC players old and new will be at Silver Royd next week for the 11th annual club reunion.
Next Friday’s reunion, which sees the current first-team squad receive their shirts for the season, preceeds the first game of the campaign against Selby the next day on Saturday September 5.
There will be a tag rugby tournament including eight teams, before a selection of former players aged over 65 will receive club ties from Nigel Wilson (pictured right).
This year’s recipients are past club president and first -team player Chris Found, former Gulls captain and club vice captain Dave Pratt, club touch judge and referee Mike Pratt, long-serving club physiotherapist Don Glynn and former first-teamer Dave Chapman.
Following the handing out of the ties, Wilson will be presenting the first-team squad with their shirts for the coming season.
Organiser Barry Beanland said: “A number of the first team players this season have come through the ranks at the club, so I thought it would be good to get Nigel to present the ties.
“We have to mention the work Keith Marshall did over the years with several of the players who are now forcing their way into the first team.”
Former first team player Duncan Bull, who played for the club in 1985/86, will be travelling from New Zealand to be at the event, while Beanland is also expecting many others to travel from afar to re-unite with some of their former teammates.
Beanland added: “We always get people coming from great distances to be at the reunion, which is great.”
Beanland was quick to thank all those who have helped organise the reunion.
He added: “Thanks go to Dave Marsden, Sam and Darrel Conlin for helping organise and to Jez Pratt, who will MC the evening for us.”
The reunion gets under way with the tag rugby tournament at 7pm, with players required to meet at 6.15pm.
It is hoped there will be eight teams contesting the tag tournament, including a team from the club’s ladies team the Valkyries, under-17s and under-16s sides coached by youth development officer Tomasz Chadwick, a team made up of club coaches, teams of current and past players, a Gulls team and a team made up of players from the club’s 1995/96 squad, organised by Phil Barker.
