Scarborough RUFC will be looking to bounce back from their Yorkshire Shield defeat against Bradford & Bingley with a home win against derby rivals Malton & Norton tomorrow.
For Last week’s Yorkshire Shield second round ties the weather was atrocious wherever you were and particularly so here on the Yorkshire coast.
Driving wind and gale force wind made it a very difficult day for rugby; Bradford & Bingley coped more successfully with the elements than the Seasiders and deserved their 22-8 win. They have been drawn against Malton at the Gannock in the quarter-final.
Malton were also in Shield action last week at Heath where they had earlier lost 25-23 in the league but like the Bees they put in a superb performance and won 10-3, their fourth consecutive win.
Having had a great league season in 2014-15 Malton ended runners-up but failed at the final hurdle losing in the play-offs.
Undaunted they have come straight back in this campaign and sit in second place having lost only twice in 12 league games. Their last league outing saw them beat struggling Yarnbury 20-15 at the Gannock.
A lengthening injury-list with established first-teamers Paul Taylor, Ian Williams, James Leach, Anthony Coffey, Harry Domett and Graeme Jeffrey all missing last week has improved slightly with Jeffrey and Williams returning to action on Saturday.
Skipper Tom Ratcliffe vacates the fullback position for Jeffrey and last week’s try-scorer Toby Welsby drops down to the bench.
Williams returns as hooker and Alessandro Zavatti starts at loose-head prop.
Elsewhere, Scarborough’s second string, the Vikings are at the Gannock to play Malton 2nds and The Danesmen take on Malton 3rds at Silver Royd, All games kick off at 2.15pm.
