“They’ve made a difficult decision but we have to respect that and look after ourselves," said Kiwi Jones.

“Everyone has young families and we’re all in the same boat so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

“None of us want to be thrown back into the season having not trained so, in my opinion, I believe that it would be best to promote and relegate as things stand and let us prepare for another season.”

Former Scarborough RUFC skipper Jones believes that Saturday's 20-17 defeat against Morley reflected his side's season as they sit in eight position in North One East.

“It was tough to take on Saturday and I felt like we worked extremely hard throughout ,” said the former skipper.

“We started the game really well and deserved our lead, but we lacked that confidence towards the end and we fell just short.

“I guess that’s been the story of our season, we started strong and hit the top but then as it’s progressed we’ve fallen away.”

The front-row forward has enjoyed both playing and helping with the upcoming players at the club.

He added: “I have been at the club a long time and to be able to give something back is ideal.

“Obviously, I’ve had to play a lot more than expected, due to injuries, but to help the younger lads progress and get their opportunity in the first team is perfect for the club.
