Scarborough suffer home defeat to York

Scarborough RUFC got off to flying start with an early try, but slid to a disappointing 13-5 home defeat to York.

Following a break by stand-in scrum-half Toby Welsby, the ball was moved left for Kiwi full-back Ant Coffey to touch down in the corner in the 10th minute at a bitterly cold Silver Royd.

York’s pack then took control, playing into the strong northerly wind, and forged 10-5 ahead with with a couple of tries set-up by powerful forward drives.

Playing with the elements after the break, the visitors should have fared better, but an improved second-half performance by the Seasiders kept them in the game.

The Minstermen did however clinch the points with a late penalty goal for a deserved 13-5 win.
