Following the announcement that Scarborough RUFC will host senior county rugby again in 2014, they have been served a further boost with news that Yorkshire Women will take on Lancashire before the men lock horns.
Scarborough’s £4million Silver Royd HQ has hosted several showpiece fixtures in recent years and this announcement will serve as a further feather in the club’s cap.
The games in the past have followed clashes between a Yorkshire.net XI and an overseas side.
SRUFC’s chief executive Graeme Young said: “It was a pleasant surprise to be contacted by the RFU regarding the women’s Roses match.
“It will make a tremendous addition to the day and comes just at the time we are looking to re-launch women’s and girls rugby in Scarborough.
“Women’s rugby is very skills based and played at a high tempo so from a spectator’s point of view the match will be a real bonus.”
It is also a distinct possibility that former Scarborough player Zoe Aldcroft will be playing in the women’s clash.
Young added: “There is a possibility that our own Zoe Aldcroft may be involved in the Yorkshire team.
“We still hope to incorporate somewhere over the weekend the Overseas All-stars v Local players match.”
