Scarborough RUFC CEO Graeme Young was remaining upbeat despite his team losing lost out 19-14 at Yorkshire One rivals Pocklington on Saturday.
He said: “Although it was very disappointing to lose the game, it shows how far we have come and how much strength in depth we have when almost half of last week’s starting line-up were injured or unavailable and the players who came in never looked out of their depth.
“Nino Cutino, who played in unfamiliar surrounding at No8, was immense and veteran scrum-half Bill Freeman turned the years back with his performance.
“It all bodes well for when we can put out a full strength side and isn’t it exciting to have a back division which can score from anywhere on the park?”
He concluded: “I’m looking forward with relish to what promises to be an exciting season ahead.”
