Scarborough denied by the rain

Scarborough CC 1sts' hopes of a first league win of the season were dashed by rain.

Ben Elvidge’s men performed well with the ball in their ECB Yorkshire Premier League North clash with York, restricting their visitors to 135-6 from 40 overs.

Zimbabwean paceman Richard Ngarava removed the Minstermen’s top three batsmen, while Kristian Wilkinson also took a trio of wickets in a miserly spell that saw him go for just 18 runs in eight overs.

Joe Ashdown (45) and Nick Kay (38 not out) were the pick of the York batters, but they found runs hard to come by as the home attack kept things tight.

The hosts then made it to 11-0 for in their reply before heavy rainfall forced the players off and eventually saw the game abandoned.

Scarborough remain second from bottom of the league standings, but the five points that they claimed from their clash with York saw them go level on points with 10th-placed Woodhouse Grange.
