Scarborough gymnasts team up to earn International Cup glory

Three teams from Scarborough Gymnastics Academy hit top form in the International TeamGym Cup in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria.

The teams performed brilliantly, winning gold in the Junior Women’s Category, gold in the Youth Micro Girls event and silver in the Youth Mixed Micro event.

Coach Nikii Walker said: “The gymnasts enjoyed the competitive experience and everyone was rewarded for their hard work in the run-up to the competition.

“Big thanks to the coaches, Kadie, Hannah, Evy and Cathy, Megan, who was the Academy’s judge, Gemma the club welfare officer, and Mieka and Nina, our competition helpers, and to all the parents and supporters for their ongoing commitment and support of the gymnasts.

“Everyone is proud of the teams achievements.”

The next event for the team and display gymnasts was performing in the Gran Canaria Blume festival opening ceremony.

She added: “This was an exciting opportunity for all the gymnasts to be involved in and everybody enjoyed the experience.

“The display squad put on a fantastic performance showing off their skills along with teams from 15 countries.

“SGA would like to say a huge thank you to event sponsors Taylor Wimpey homes, Tolent construction, room at the top loft conversions and MKM for their support.

“It is humbling to know the club have such great support from local businesses.”

Mixed micro: Aaron Coates, Jacob bland, Gemma Sykes, Hannah best and Olivia young.

Girls micro: Hannah Lawson, Lottie bland, Ffion Richards, Jodie Best.

Display squad members: Emily young, Leon young, Joseph salt, mieka hickey, nina flood, Evyn Richards.
