The new Sports Bursary Scheme, which has been set up by Yorkshire Coast Homes, aims to help fund those who are struggling to get into or carry on in their respective sports due to financial restraints.

Some of the town’s sporting heroes have thrown their weight behind the scheme.

Former IBF and IBO featherweight world champion Paul Ingle was delighted to put his name to the scheme.

Ingle said: “I’m glad someone has come along to get involved and help out like this.

“It’s great, years ago we wouldn’t have had anything like this and it’s definitely a great idea.

“There are certainly a few of the lads at Scarborough ABC that this would be a great boost to, so it can only be a good thing.”

Former Manchester United, Middlesbrough and West Brom man Jonathan Greening has also backed the scheme.

Greening said: “I’m pleased to add my support to the YCH Sports Bursary Scheme which I believe will help and encourage people to take up opportunities that they may otherwise miss out on.”

YCH CEO Shaun Tymon said: “We have established the YCH Sports Bursary scheme to support local people in reaching their individual sporting goals and we hope that others will join us in working towards this objective.”

YCH is inviting local people to join the list of sports stars who are getting behind the scheme by making a contribution to help the company achieve its objective of enabling people to participate in sporting activities.
