Andrew, known as Mo, has been remembered with an annual memorial day at Scarborough RUFC for the past six years, and despite the weather forcing the players and supporters inside this year, they still raised £1,000 for St Catherine’s.

Staxton Cricket Club, who Mo turned out for, took on Scarborough RUFC Valkyries in a game of touch rugby in the sports hall before the main game between Mo’s Exiles and Keith’s Crusaders.

Staxton CC and Keith’s Crusaders were the victors of their respective games.

There was a lunch held in the Qdos Suite at Silver Royd as well as the action on the day.

Stevenson said: “Despite the dreadful weather, quite a few still turned up for the indoor games and the lunch and we managed to raise £1,000 for St Catherine’s Hospice.

“They looked after Andrew and did a great job, it’s a worthy cause and it’s great that people are still turning out every Easter Monday to remember Andrew.

“We said that while people want to support the event that we would continue it, and it seems that people do and we’ll be running it again next year.

“Thank you to Dave Marsden, the Conlins, Simon Smith, Joe Marshall, Scarborough Rugby Club and staff and everyone who supported the event. It’s great to see so many come out to support it.”
