The prize presentations were done on Sunday evening and the following members were the recipients.

The Captain’s Prize went to Chris Wharton (16) after his excellent net 65, the foundations of his score were 13 gross pars that gave him the leeway for a couple of lapses in concentration.

Simon Boddy (1) claimed the best gross score award with a sub-par gross 69 or three under.

His round featured three birdies at the first, fifth and eighth holes along with 15 gross pars, wonderful play and a very deserved prize.

The first division winner was Nick Timmins (10), who posted a very good net 66 to hold off the challenge of Joey Earnshaw (7), who finished on net 69.

Andrew Bradley (13) had the best back nine to take third place above John Collins (6) and John Wood (7) after all three handed in net 70s.

In Division Two, Darran Bunyan (18) shot net 68 for first prize with Pete McArthur (17) in second place with a net 69. Steve Purdy (15) had the best back nine of four players on net 70 to pick up third prize.

Other awards went to Paul Bang (17), who proved to be the best of the past captains in the competition with a net 70.

The veterans prize went to Steve Edeson (14) courtesy of a great round of net 68.

In the Junior Competition Matthew Walker (16) had a brilliant day and won with a net 65.

George Bell (14) and Michael Patterson (4) both posted net 70, but Bell took second spot on the countback.

Jim and Janet Hall won the mixed stableford event with a total of 42 points from second placed Graham and Christine Toulson on 39 points.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Nigel Hird on the seventh, Luca Masucci the 11th and Geoff Charlesworth on the 15th.

Bradshaw lifts Town Cup at Filey

Filey Golf Club held their Town Cup at the weekend and it produced a very exciting result with three players posting net scores of 65, closely followed by another four on net 66.

After the required countback had been resolved, the winner was David Bradshaw (11).

Bradshaw pushed the unlucky Gary Marflitt into second spot and he was left to regret a bogey on the last.

Bryn Kneeshaw (13) ended up in third place and like Marflitt, made bogey at the last. There were three excellent rounds, but it was Bradshaw who lifted the Trophy.

The four net 66s were posted by Paul Willis (15), Chris Suddards (3), Dave Gilbank (14) and Richard Baker (9) and they were placed in that order subsequent to the countback.

Glorious Gloria nets Bowl success

South Cliff ladies competed for the Wilson Bowl last Tuesday and that old adage of beware the injured golfer applied.

Gloria Pickering (15), having been out of action for a while with a wrist injury, came back and produced a great round to win the Bowl with a nett 66.

Pickering started well and carded birdies at the second and third and played some steady golf for the rest of her round and as a result her handicap was cut to 13.

The runner-up was Ali Lockwood (12) with a net 72, the highlight of her round was a birdie at the par-five eighth.

The ladies were back on the course on Friday for their June Stableford competition and the results were as follows:

Silver Division: 1st Judy Locking (15) 35 pts, 2nd Anna Mollon (20) 34 pts, 3rd Ewa Graczyk (18) 30 pts. Bronze 1st Division: 1st Clare Thompson (24) 32 pts, 2nd Chris McMahon (27) 30 pts, 3rd Glenis Hoskins (24) 30 pts.

Bronze 2nd Division: 1st Ann Wrigglesworth (31) 32 pts, 2nd Rosemary Swallow (36) 26 pts and 3rd Brenda Foreman (32) 24 pts.

Lady captain Rennard lifts Bowes Goblet

At North Cliff, the ladies played their June Stableford competition in conjunction with the second round of the Bowes Goblet.

Marilyn Rennard, the current lady captain, made her mark by winning the Bowes Goblet by adding a further 29 points to her first round total of 34 for a total of 63 points.

Runner-up Pat Palmer also scored 29 points this time out but her previous round of 32 points gave her 61 points.

In the June Stableford Jean Armitage-Beattie took first place in Division One with 32 points just holding off Denise Holmes on 31 with Barbara Brocklehurst third on 30 points.

In Division Two Christine Brodie came top with a total of 33 points, Maureen Collier was second on 27 points.

Christine Toulson claimed first place in Division Three with her total of 32 points to edge out Marilyn Rennard and Susan Bower, who both carded 29 points.
