Younger leaves it late to land county honour

The 15-year-old won the title representing Scarborough and Ryedale District Schools at York University Sports Centre.

Younger, who lives in Falsgrave, pulled it out of the bag when the pressure was on to record a personal best of 27.05 metres with his final throw of the day.

Before that he was lying further down the rankings having thrown 22.38 metres.

He said: “It is great being a county champion.

“I was nervous waiting for the competition, we had two practice throws and then four competitive throws.

“I realised that I had to pull it out of the bag in my last throw and I managed a personal best, which was great.”
