THE Evening News are teaming up with Olympic project coordinator Mitch Cook to offer a local youngster the chance to cover this summer’s Games.

We are on the look-out for a potential top journalist who will write a daily Olympic blog in the Evening News, covering a selection of sports from the 100 metres sprint, below, to archery.

The successful entrant will also have a day shadowing an Evening News sports reporter and a day working alongside Cook while he undertakes his duties preparing for the Olympic Games.

To make the cut you have to cover a sporting event, either local or national and write a 200-word report.

This event must take place between tomorrow and Saturday March 31. The reports must be submitted by Wednesday April 4.

Sports editor Andy Bloomfield and Cook will select the winner and they will be notified soon after.

Entrants have to live in the Scarborough area and must be in either Year nine, 10 or 11 at school.

Organiser Cook said: “It is a great opportunity for a local youngster interested in sport to put themselves into the journalistic shop window.

“Not only that, but they will also have their work read every night by 1,000s of Evening News readers.

“The winner will also have the opportunity to spend time on the renowned Evening News sports desk, as well as learning my role in the big build-up.”

Reports can be emailed to, as well as posted or dropped off at our offices - 17-23 Aberdeen Walk, Scarborough, Y011 1BB.
