Tickets for Books by the Beach went on sale today – with the news that actress Greta Scacchi has been added to the guest list.

Brochures detailing all the events in the literature festival will also be available at various outlets across Scarborough and beyond.

Also confirmed for Books by the Beach – which runs from Thursday April 24 to Sunday April 27 – are Lucy Worsley, Kate Adie, Joanna Trollope, Margaret Drabble, James Naughtie, Peter Snow, Joanne Harris, Jo Baker, Michael Jones, Philippa Langley, Allan Mallinson and Lynn Shepherd.

Broadcaster Mark Lawson pulled out after headlines surrounding his departure from his Radio 4 arts show.

Scandi crime king Jo Nesbo will also be in town on Monday April 28. His Scarborough date is only one of three he is doing. The others are in Nottingham and London.

“We wanted to extend the variety of what was on offer and also use venues across the town,” said Heather French, co-director of the event with writer Peter Guttridge.

“We want to get as many people involved as possible and, at the same time, give the town a higher profile and make the festival accessible,” said Heather.

Scacchi – star of White Mischief and Heat and Dust – is taking part in two events: Ghouls and Ghosts at the former prison in Dean Road, and also talking at the library about her
career in films based on books.

As well as the prison, there will be events at the library, the Crescent Hotel, the art gallery and a dinner at the Town Hall.

Tickets are available from the Tourist Information Centre in the Brunswick Shopping Centre, Scarborough.
