THE Ryedale branch of the Royal Air Forces Association has been awarded gold tassels to attach to its branch standard to mark its 50th anniversary.

A branch of the RAFA was formed in Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale in the 1960s but was renamed the Ryedale Branch in 1999.

To mark the occasion it will be holding a special ceremony at the Eden Camp Museum on Sunday July 17 when, in the presence of the commanding officers of two local RAF stations, the northern area director of RAFA, and representatives from other ex-servicemen organisations, the tassels will be presented by a VIP.
