Yorkshire Tunny Fishing
Tunny have been sighted 40 miles off Scarborough, and this weekend should see the opening of Yorkshire’s big-game angling season.
The President of the British Tunny Club, Lady Broughton. expects to spend a week fishing from August 2 and has chartered the yacht Joanna for this period, while Commander Lovegrove also expects to be out that week, probably fishing from the Courage, which is to be used later in August by Mr. Maurice Holgate.
A newcomer to Scarborough fishing will be Mr. M. Horden, who has considerable experience of big-game angling in Australia.
He is expected about August 9 and will probably make a three weeks stay. Colonel Sparrow, one of the first anglers to try tunny fishing in English waters and whose wife landed the first to be caught by a woman off Scarborough 1932, plans to fish from August 20 to 26.
Mr. Harold Hardy, secretary of the Tunny Club, has not yet arrived, but Mr. Frank Watkinson, of Scarborough is charge in his absence.
