Books By The Beach is looking for volunteers to help steward its events.

“We have a lot of great authors coming to town, and we need your help looking after them,” said co-director Heather French.

Her fellow director, Peter Guttridge, said: “Keeping a book festival going in Scarborough we’re working to tight budgets. We’re grateful that we’ve already signed up about a dozen volunteers who previously worked on the literature festival, but we need more people.”

The work involves ticket-taking, seat-coordinating, drink-serving and a myriad duties, including looking after authors.

The volunteers are being co-ordinated by Cheryl Siddons. There will be a meeting in Scarborough Library: Tuesday April 1 from 2pm to 4pm for anyone who is interested.

“This is a chance for individuals to get involved in a local festival with a national reputation,” said Cheryl.
