Scarborough resident Paul Atkinson said the Gary Barlow concert was a trimph for the Futurist.
“It was great to see the old place rocking as 2000 concert-goers stood for nearly two hours clapping, singing, cheering, waving arms, as Gary Barlow entertained his fans,” said Paul who went to the event with his wife Sandra and daughter Becky.
The X-Factor judge made no reference to a his pantomime comment used to describe an act on the talent show. But he did say it was absolutely amazing to be in Scarborough and “don’t think the snow would have stopped us from coming”.
Paul and his family sat next to someone who had travelled from Lincoln to see the sell-out show.
As they were leaving Barrie Stead, who runs the theatre on behalf of Scarborough Council, and his manager Andrew Nesbitt were standing near the exit doors which lead to the seafront.
“Some of the comments passed on to them included ‘fantastic night’, ‘thank you for such an awesome night’, ‘absolute triumph for the Futurist’, and ‘what a great atmosphere’,” said Paul, who lives in the Scalby Road area of town.
“Barlow thanked Scarborough for its terrific support and said he hoped to see us again soon,” said Paul.
After the show, the star tweeted: “thank you Scarborough, what a fantastic night! loud and proud! Ace.”
