Statement Drama Company is reeling with success having won seven awards at the Sedgefield Drama Festival.

They performed two monologues, both by American playwrights, The Devil and Billy Markham by Shel Silverstein and Here I Am by Joyce Carol Oates.

The Devil and dBilly Markham won Best Production, Best Actor (Steve Johnson) and the Audience Award.

Here I Am won The Mayor’s Award (runner up to the Best Production), Best Actress (Sue Wilding) and the Most Effective Set.

Aline Bliss, who directed both plays, won the Best Director accolade.

The adjudicator Ian Sarginson, a member of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators, said after the performances that they were the best plays he had seen in the past year. Sedgefield Drama Festival organiser Norma Neal also said ‘’Friday was one of the best nights in the history of Sedgefield Festival – definitely one for the memory bank.”

Statement Drama will perform the plays in Sedgefield again on Saturday November 10. Steve Johnson has also been asked to perform The Devil and Billy Markham again at a musical blues night being in Sedgefield next June.
