IT was love at first bite for former TV presenter Selina Scott after she officially opened a new food market.
The Scarborough-born star cut the ribbon for the first Malton Food Lovers Market in the town’s Milton Rooms.
More than 30 local food and drink stalls jostled for space at the event which was endorsed by Italian cook Antonio Carluccio who recently visited the town and named a piglet Sophia Loren.
The event, held under the We Love Malton banner, complemented a traditional market and organisers hope it will become a permanent fixture similar to the monthly Farmers Market and the annual Food Lovers Festival.
Ms Scott said: “I think this is the beginning of something good.”
Cookery demonstrations were also held during the day which attracted stalls selling a variety of locally-produced food and drink.
Organisers said they were “delighted” with the turnout and stallholders agreed it had been well worth attending.
