The Tim Thornton Quartet featuring Dave O’Higgins comes to Scarborough Jazz at The Cask on Wednesday February 20.

Double bassist Tim is one of the fastest rising stars of the UK jazz scene.

A graduate of the Birmingham Conservatoire, he works internationally and across the country with musicians such as Stan Sulzman, Jim Mullen, Guy Barker, Anita Wardell and Stan Tracey to name only a few.

Based in London, Tim can regularly be heard at Ronnie Scott’s, Pizza Express Jazz Club and the 606 Club. He leads this quartet and this gig is part of an extensive UK tour to launch his debut album New Kid featuring Dave O’Higgins.

Dave is an internationally known saxophonist who cut his teeth with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and Dame Cleo Laine. He went on to play with Martin Taylor, Ray Charles, Kyle Eastwood, Jamie Cullum, Frank Sinatra and the BBC Big Band.

He has many solo albums to his name, and has also recorded with a great many jazz stars including Jason Rebello, Itchy Fingers, Jim Mullen, Clark Tracey and Geoff Gascoyne.

Both Tim and Dave were at the Scarborough Jazz Festival last year. Tickets are £7 and the music starts at 8.45pm.
