From the beginning of August, the Spa Orchestra’s Friday morning programme will be renamed Light Fantastic and will include music for dancing.

As a prelude to this, the gala concert on Thursday August 18 at 7.30pm will be An Invitation to the Dance.

The Orchestra will play a wide range of music associated with many different kinds of dance.

As always, the accent will be on melody and musical entertainment with an amazing variety of different dance styles represented in the evening’s programme.

Of course, there will be a Strauss waltz, but also a tango, a polka, the beguine, a ballet selection, a jazz band dance – even a grasshoppers’ dance and much more.

Two of the highlights will be pianist and musical director Paul Laidlaw’s stunning performance of the Mexican Fire Dance, and a finale featuring the famous Can-Can which should have everyone’s toes tapping.

Spa Orchestra concerts continue every morning (Monday to Friday) at 11am and evenings (Monday to Thursday) at 7.30pm. Highlights next week include a Gilbert and Sullivan evening

On Thursday August 25 and music from the Movies in Peasholm Park on Friday August 26.
