A NEW Scarborough entertainment company is hoping to attract the latest chart acts to the town’s Open Air Theatre.

A number of events have already been announced for this year’s programme – kicking off with Elton John’s sold out solo show on June 5 and ending with a Last Night at the Proms event featuring Dame Kiri Te Kenawa on August 28 – by venue operator Apollo.

However, Tony Viney, founder of Entourage Global, has said he is also in talks with several popular acts to perform at the venue during this summer.

He told the Evening News: “I can confirm that we are hoping to organise several events at the Open Air Theatre this summer but cannot, at this stage, confirm who will be coming to Scarborough.”

He added that he hoped to be able to make the first announcement as soon as next week, adding: “We wanted to do more for a younger audience and we feel that our events complement what Apollo is offering.

“There will be a broad spectrum of entertainment at this fantastic venue. We could have a great summer of contemporary music ahead of us.”

Entourage Global is a new company formed by a group of friends with the specific aim of representing the local people’s musical interests within the theatre programme.

Mr Viney said: “Essentially a group of us got together and had a whip around. We emptied savings and some even sold their cars.

“I formed the company and we were able to source some huge artists who simply liked our ‘lets just get on and do it’ approach. If we sell out a concert I will do my best to get another huge band and so on.

“I must make sure we get the bands that the people of this town want to see. To that end I have set up a dedicated email address for people to tell me what they want. I will poll people’s suggestions from the emails and then, as long as I can afford it, I will quite simply go out and get them.

“I want to make this the town’s theatre, which is exactly why I am holding half of the tickets back from the internet and putting them in the box office; to give Scarborough people the first chance of being part of something big.”
