The evening gets under way with Sousa’s famousmarch Stars and Stripes.

The Great American Songbook is celebrated with a special feature of the music of Cole Porter and there’s also music from Carousel and West Side Story.

Added to this, there’s Dixieland music from the Deep South and dance band music in the Glenn Miller style, contrasted with the wistful (Hovis advert) theme from the New World Symphony. The first half of the concert closes with a real bang in Paul Laidlaw’s own stunning arrangement of Slaughter on Tenth Avenue, famously danced on the silver screen by Gene Kelly.

As well as gala night, the orchestra plays each morning from Monday to Friday in the Sun Court and each evening from Mondays to Thursdays in the Grand Hall.
