It’s time for the sound of music – the Spa Orchestra pays tribute musical theatre duo Rodgers and Hammerstein on Thursday August 22.

Before they collaborated, they had both been successful in writing and composing for stage and screen, but when they worked together for the first time in the 1940s they turned musicaltheatre head over heels.

The show will include selections from Oklahoma!, Carousel, The King and I and South Pacific, as well as The Sound of Music.

Joining the Spa Orchestra will be Welsh baritone Owen Webb and the soprano Maria Bovino. They will be backed by the chorus from York Musical Theatre Company.

Orchestral Showstoppers is the programme for Thursday August 29.

From the opening overture of the world-famous Can-Can to the closing climax of Ravel’s Bolero there will be musical fireworks of all kinds justifying the title of Showstoppers, not least with the Sabre Dance and the Mexican Fire Dance.

Concerts are at the Spa and start at 7.30pm.
