Multi-instrumentalist and one-time Scarborough resident Al Wood returns Scarborough jazz at The Cask on Wednesday April 15.
While an accomplished sax player, Al is well known for his ability to play many instruments well and can switch effortlessly to brass instruments mid song.
He has graced the bands of Ken Mackintosh and Maynard Ferguson and both the BBC Big Band and The Northern Dance Orchestra.
He was director of jazz performance at Leeds College of Music for many years and while there, worked with many bands in the region.
During that time he also had regular slots on Radio 2.
His band, the Al Wood Nine, made a massive impression at Scarborough Jazz Festival in 2013. Expect no less of an impression when he plays his swinging, melodic jazz at the Cask with the MG3 (Mike Gordon Trio).
Doors open at 8pm. And music commences at 8.45pm. Admission £4 on the door.
This year’s Scarborough Jazz Festival will be held at the Spa.It runs from Friday September 25 to Sunday September 27.
