Scarborough Symphony Orchestra is in final rehearsals ahead of its new season of concerts beginning on Saturday November 17.
Conductor Shaun Matthew is excited at the prospect of working with some highly talented soloists and new young recruits to the orchestra.
Among the young new recruits to the orchestra are 15-year-old cellists Harry Gunning, from Scarborough, and Laura Abbey, from Scalby. They will be joined by Laura’s brother, 18-year-old Alex, and French horn player Isaac Wilsher, 15, also The programme features Mendelssohn’s Reformation symphony, JS Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No.5 - showcasing a trio of local soloists and firm friends of the orchestra, Richard Quick (violin), Josephine Peach (harpsichord) and the orchestra’s principal flautist Catherine Sign - plus a performance of Beethoven’s Leonora Overture No 3.
All concerts are take place at Scarborough’s Methodist Central Hall in Queen Street, beginning at 7.30pm, preceded by a free talk about the music at 6.45pm. Free parking is available.
