Helmsley Arts Centre’s Ryedale Writers group is launching a series of literary events and creative writing initiatives.
A Weekend with Words featuring poetry, song-writing and short stories will run from October 12 to 14.
This will be followed by a literary festival in 2013 during which Yorkshire poet Simon Armitage has already agreed to be poet-in-residence and judge an international poetry competition.
“This area has a surprising number of writers, including some famous names,” said arts centre artistic director Em Whitfield Brooks.
“Through the Ryedale Writers group we plan to reflect this strength in an exciting and inspirational way which will benefit the whole community, including schools and the many people whose hidden writing talents are waiting to be discovered,” she said.
“We’re also hoping to become a lively forum for established writers.”
Anyone interested in finding out more is welcome at the launch at the centre on Monday July 16 at 7pm.
