One for the Diary: Film season, Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, May

The latest blockbusters from Stephen Spielberg and Wes Anderson, a Polish language thriller, a documentary about the swinging sixties, and classic Yorkshire silent are just part of a rich and varied menu of films at Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre.

The Yorkshire Silent Film Festival returns for the third year running, this year bringing four movies. Professor Vanessa’s Performing Wonders marks the 250th birthday of circus with some weird and wonderful circus and variety performers of the past; Danish screen legend Asta Neilsen stars as a unique female Hamlet (1921); Louise Brooks is a hobo who disguises herself as a boy and goes on the run in Beggars of Life (1928); and Speedy (1928) is a classic Harold Lloyd comedy.
