Award-winning northern playwright Jim Cartwright has penned a seasonal story especially for the Milton Rooms in Malton.
A Christmas Fair is set in a village hall at Yuletide and can be seen from December 13 to December 16 and from December 20 to December 23.
The project was formed after Jim visited the venue, set up by Garry Cooper and Scarborough-born director Nick Bagnall.
“When I saw first-hand what they had already achieved and heard of their on-going plans for the Milton Rooms, I could not help but get involved, and so A Christmas Fair was born,” said the writer of The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Road and Two.
The play looks at the characters involved in the setting up of a Christmas fair – heartbreaking stories emerge fuelled by a punch that packs a punch, young love seems imminent, the caretaker wants to go home, Veronica needs all hands on deck and the vicar has more than season’s greetings on his mind. This is village life has seen through one of the country’s leading playwrights.
