Red-carpet event for Beatles documentary at Stephen Joseph Theatre

A new adaptation of a children's adventure classic, a documentary about the Beatles, the latest from Woody Allen and a streaming of a show considered to be a landmark in 20th century musical theatre have all been added to the cinema programme at Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre for this autumn.

From September 9, cinema-goers can enjoy the new adaptation of Arthur Ransome’s Swallows and Amazons, starring Kelly Macdonald, Andrew Scott, Rafe Spall and Harry Enfield.

It’s followed on its release date September 15, by the world premiere of Ron Howard’s new documentary about the early years of The Beatles. The Beatles: Eight Days A Week – The Touring Years, will live stream from Leicester Square from 6pm on Thursday September 15: the evening will include footage of the star-studded red carpet event, the documentary itself and 20 minutes of additional exclusive content.

The documentary alone will then be shown as a standard cinema screening from Saturday September 17.

Set in 1930s Hollywood, Woody Allen’s Café Society (from September 23) looks at the story of a young New Yorker trying to start life over in California.

On Wednesday October 5, from 5pm, an encore streaming of the National Theatre’s The Threepenny Opera promises ‘filthy language and immoral behaviour’. Brecht and Weill’s groundbreaking ‘play with music’ sees Rory Kinnear as Macheath as London scrubs up for the coronation.

The films and streamings join a September cinema programme which already includes the new Star Trek Beyond (September 2 to 8), and a one-off screening of the director’s cut of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, at 7.45pm on September 8, the date which marks the 50th anniversary of the first episode of the TV original.
