The graduate student from Newby has won a place at Drama Studio London – and is putting on a fundraiser to help with the fees.

The variety show is on at Scarborough Library Concert Hall on Friday June 21 at 7pm.

“It will be a night of song and music from talented local acts, some of whom are coming up from London where they are also currently training at drama school,” said Shannon, who is studying performance at Northumbria University in Newcastle.

“It should be a great evening with a range of different singers and musicians,” she said.

Shannon, who went to Newby and Scalby schools and Scarborough Sixth Form College, has always wanted to be an actress.

“I am doing all I can to get there and support myself. I have been doing a lot of different things to help raise money for the costly course and the living expense in London, including bake sales, a concert in Newcastle and selling my things on ebay,” she said.

She has performed at the YMCA, the Spa Theatre, the Futurist and in local hotels and nursing homes.

She belonged to YMCA Productions and trained and performed with Anne Taylor’s School of Dance, Kay Carmen, Stagecoach, Scarborough and District Light Operatic Society and Take One Productions.
