100 not out for stage giants

Scarborough-based Alan Ayckbourn and Nick Thomas have again made it to The Stage 100 – a list of the most influential people in theatre.

Qdos boss Thomas came in at number 12 - a place above last year. Best known for producing pantomimes – more than 20 at venues from Newcastle to Southampton with stars including Christopher Biggins, Joe Pasqaule and the Chuckle Brothers – the company also as a venue and talent divisions.

“Thomas has fully capitalised on the entertainment opportunities in the multi-billion pound cruise line industry,” said the industry bible.

Playwright Ayckbourn was second in the list of writers and composers – and was described by the magazine as consistent and prolific.

Ayckbourn had three plays premier at the Stephen Joseph Theatre in the town last year as well as a revival. His plays were also put on nationally.
