THEATRE fans came from all over the world to spend three days in Scarborough at the Alan Ayckbourn weekend.
The event was organised by Alan Ayckbourn’s official website in conjunction with the Stephen Joseph Theatre’s OutReach department and raised £1,800 for the OutReach department and its work in the community.
The weekend saw participants from throughout the UK and as far afield as Alaska and Switzerland visit the Stephen Joseph Theatre.
Simon Murgatroyd, administrator of the event and Ayckbourn’s archivist, said: “There has been a fantastic response to the weekend, which raised almost double what we hoped. The enthusiastic response from the participants demonstrates just how highly regarded Alan Ayckbourn and the Stephen Joseph Theatre are held around the country and world.”
The highlight of the sold-out weekend was a question and answer session with Sir Alan and the chance to see his new plays Neighbourhood Watch and Dear Uncle.
Other events included a chance to hear extracts from rarely seen Ayckbourn plays as well as a silent auction, which included autographed Ayckbourn manuscripts and a 2012 theatre package to see the next Ayckbourn play.
