The excitement is building at the YMCA Theatre as preparations are almostcomplete for YMCA Productions’ spring production Guys and Dolls.
The hit musical tells the story of Nathan Detroit and his 14 year engagement with Miss Adelaide as well as introducing notorious gambler Sky Masterson and straight-laced missionary Sarah Brown.
“The YMCA is buzzing with excitement about our upcoming production,” said productions director James Aconley.
“It’s great timing for us as the show is enjoying a fantastic run on the West End at the moment, as well as embarking on a national tour over the next few months.”
As well as starring a young cast of more than 30 local performers, the production is accompanied by a live orchestra under the musical direction of William Oseland.
“The show has an absolutely fantastic score with some really well known songs such as Luck Be A Lady and Sit Down You’re Rocking The Boat,” William said.
It also includes the title song, If I were a Bell, I’ve Never Been in Love Befor and The Oldest Established.
“The musicians are really excited to be getting started and performing with the cast in April”.
Completing the creative trio is Rowlies Academy of Dance who will be providing the choreography for the production.
“We’ve staged some fantastic musicals over the past couple of years at the YMCA, including Our House, Jesus Christ Superstar and Little Shop of Horrors”, said executive director Steve Marsh.
“We’re certain that Guys and Dolls will live up to audiences’ expectations and we cannot wait to share the hard work with our local theatregoers.”
Nnursery and childcare centre Jitterbugs in Trinity Road, Scarborough, has sponsored Guys and Dolls, contributing support towards production costs for the show.
Guys and Dolls is YMCA Productions’ first main production for this year, with Rock of Ages to follow in the summer and
Christmas Cracker and Cinderella as their festive offerings in December.
Guys and Dolls is on at the YMCA Theatre, St Thomas Street, Scarborough, on Saturday April 2 and then Monday April 4 until Saturday April 9, daily at 7.30pm.
