Christmas is on the way and panto season wouldn’t be complete without a song – oh no it wouldn’t!
Cue Filey lad Tyler Smith, 17, who has penned a new song which features in the Stephen Joseph Theatre’s production of Aladdin – oh yes he has!
A budding solo singer, the Teen Star and Britain Does Variety finalist has previously performed at the Open Air Theatre and he can now often be seen on Hull’s gig circuit.
Tyler’s first professional stage appearance at the Stephen Joseph Theatre came at the age of 12 when he was cast in A Christmas Carol, directed by Chris Monks.
The pair have been collaborating again after Tyler was specially commissioned to compose the music for a song after receiving the lyrics from the artistic director.
Titled Full Moon of the Full Moons, it can be heard in the pantomime which opened earlier this month and and runs until January 3, and also in the trailer for the show.
It is a love song and is performed in the show by Jay Saighal as Aladdin and Arabella Rodrigo as Princess Badroulbadour.
He said: “Filming the trailer was a different experience to what I’m used to as I’ve done a lot of stage acting but not for camera. I think the trailer and song is feel-good, it’s fun and has a nice message.
“I felt really privileged to be asked and to be a part of it, it was a lot of fun to put it together and to see it evolve. I got the lyrics from Chris one day and I had a tune ready the next day. I’m glad they liked it.”
Now in his last year at Sixth Form College and studying a Performing Arts Extended Diploma, Tyler is looking to go on to drama school and university.
He added: “I really want to be down in London or a big city where there are lots of opportunities. I love singing and acting so we’ll see where the future takes me.”
