Disney has given the world some of the most memorable and catchy film tunes of all time.

And the company of YMCA Productions race through a good many of them in its summer offering.

The full cast burst on to the stage with Dancin’ A Catchy Rhythm – a song and dance number which sets the tone and tune for the rest of the programme.

When you Wish Upon a Star, sweetly performed by Alexandra Kirby, and Reflection, by Nicole Wade, ensured there was a gentler pace to some of the evening.

Favourites from Mary Poppins – Step in Time was particularly good – were mixed with relative newcomers including When Will My Life Begin and I see The Light from Tangled.

Frozen – one of the more recent Disney delights – was well represented as was The Little Mermaid, particularly Andii Hosking with his showstopping, bring-the-house-down rendition of Under the Sea. It was magic!

No Disney show would be complete without Bare Necessities and I Wanna be Like You from Jungle Book and these were great, sing-along, foot-tapping additions to an imaginative programme.

The Disney Heroine medly was another example of the depth and range on offer – and played to the company’s strengths.

The curtain came down with Lion King Finale and a rousing Circle of Life.

Lauren Phillipson as Mary and Alexandra Kirby as the spirited heroine of Tangled were also exceptionally good as were Alfie Howle, Mary Haviland and Daniel Stubley.

However, this a company effort and standard of song and dance was of an amazingly high standard.

The show runs from Mondays to Thursdays until August 28. Performances daily at 7.30pm.
