Hands up straight away – I love this kind of entertainment – old fashioned, traditional seaside show.
It is as much a part of a week by the sea as sugared hot doughnuts, sand in your sandwiches, candy floss and a 99.
Both shows have songs you can sing along to and, in the words of Peter Kay, jokes that you know.
They are safe, family fare, risque without being rude and saucy without being sordid – all slickly produced and performed with a wink and a smile by the company of Tony Peers Productions.
There is not much to chose between Summer Spectacular and Seaside Special. The first is hosted with breezy bonhomie by comedian Joey Howard featuring muic by ELton John, Olly Murs and Westlife – and, thank goodness, show tunes including South Pacific. A touch of magic comes from Illusionesque.
Seaside Special is hosted by the youthful affable Wink Taylor with the world of pop – Tina Turner, Cher and Jessie J – providing the music inspiration. Again Illusionesque provide the magic.
A hit in both shows is Theo the mouse – cheekier than Orville and more charming than Emu.
Chose either show and you are guaranteed quality variety – go to both and that variety is doubled. The emphasis here is on putting on an enjoyable, sunny few hours which both young and old can appreciate – and with production values second to none. The costumes and settings are first rate, the choreography bright and performances first class.
Seaside Special runs each Monday, Thursday and Friday until September 21. Summer Spectacular runs each Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday until September 22.
All performances start at 8pm.
