Enjoy a brush with art at dementia friendly group in Bridlington
A new art group is set to bring light and entertainment to local people with dementia.
Dementia can be an isolating condition, and it can be difficult for those who suffer with it, and their carers, to find meaningful interventions within travelling distance that improve quality of life.

Bridlington-based Red Kite Arts, which delivers drama, music, art, and nature based therapeutic workshops to care homes across East Yorkshire, is set to change this with BULBS – a brand new arts group for local seniors with dementia, and their carers.
Meeting weekly, for an hour at a time in central Bridlington, the inclusive group will feature sensory arts-based activities, often inspired by nature, such as finger and sponge painting, printmaking, and dough modelling.
There will also be music and song, movement, and even mindfulness, and carers can also join in while learning vital skills in providing arts-based activities for those they look after.
Red Kite’s founder, Rowan Martin, said: “There is an idea that people with dementia don’t have anything creative to contribute, and that’s simply not true.
“Through our work with local care homes, we’ve seen all seniors, including those with varying degrees of dementia, benefit greatly from taking part in imaginative, person-centred arts projects, with the right level of support and guidance.
“Our BULBS group will bring our work with care homes to a community setting, and will allow more people with dementia, and those who perform the remarkable task of caring for them on a daily basis, to enjoy a wide range of therapeutic arts interventions, from sensory tubs and immersive experiences to gentle movement to music, and mindful exploration of nature.”

The group will cost £10 per person (and carer) to attend, with discounted places available to anyone who is struggling financially.
