It has featured in numerous TV and film productions, most famously as the fictional Brideshead, both in Granada Television’s 1981 adaptation of Evelyn Waugh’s Brideshead Revisited and a two-hour 2008 remake for cinema. It has also hosted ITV’s global hit series Victoria, Sky’s The Queen & I, BBC drama Death Comes To Pemberley, and feature film Garfield 2.

Sally Joynson, chief executive at Screen Yorkshire, whose film office helped with the production, said: ‘’The global success of Bridgerton demonstrates Yorkshire’s robust credentials as a world leading destination for filming and Castle Howard looks magnificent on screen in the drama, where it features as the location for Simon Basset’s estate.

“Our wealth of stately homes and heritage locations make the region a huge draw for period productions.

Protagonist Daphne Bridgerton is played by Phoebe Dynevor - daughter of Coronation Street’s Sally Dynevor, who portrays Sally Webster - and Regé-Jean Page is love interest Simon Basset.

Promoted as “Downton Abbey meets Gossip Girl”, the show follows the eldest daughter of the wealthy Bridgerton family as she comes of age and enters the fierce London marriage market.

Julie Andrews, star of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, narrates the show, which is based on the books of Julia Quinn.

The number of viewers Netflix reports is based on the number of subscribers who have watched at least two minutes of a piece of content, according to Variety.
