Glenda Young's Seaview Hotel cosy crime series set to make its Scarborough setting a TV sensation
Teeside-based Nova Mundi Studios are developing a cosy crime series for television based on the bestselling novels set in Scarborough by author Glenda Young.
Glenda said: “I’m over the moon with this news. Scarborough has had a special place in my heart for more than 50 years.

“It’s where my parents brought me and my brothers on holiday when we were little. We stayed in the same B&B for many years in the middle of August.
“I love the town so much that I was married at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. I’ve had all of my book launches in Scarborough, including one in the Central Tramway funicular,”
The cosy crime series are: Murder at the Seaview Hotel; Curtain Call at the Seaview Hotel; Foul Play at the Seaview Hotel and Deadly Dancing at the Seaview Hotel.
The first book introduces Helen Dexter as the proprietor of the Seaview Hotel. With her trusty greyhound Suki by her side, she investigates when murder strikes among 12 Elvis impersonators. “Nova Mundi, who are developing the books for screen, are a great team, and it’s wonderful to be working with a local company who know how important it is to showcase Scarborough and the northeast.
“I can’t wait to see my characters come to life. It’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened. I’m going to try to get a role as an extra in one of the scenes, eating a Pineapple Surprise in the Harbour Bar.”
Nova Mundi executive producer Marc de Launay says, “It’s fantastic to be working with Glenda on developing what will be an amazing cosy crime series, showcasing the talent and the character of Scarborough.
“Murder At The Seaview Hotel is poised to be a hit for fans of cosy crime dramas, with the potential to grow into a beloved and classic long-running series.
“With endearing characters, picturesque settings, and murder mysteries that are as clever as they are accessible, the series offers something for everyone – from emotionally uplifting moments to edge-of-your-seat suspense. We can’t wait.”
Glenda Young’s bestselling series of novels set in the town go from strength to strength. The books were shortlisted for Best New Crime Series with Richard Osman and Val McDermid, in the Dead Good Readers Awards.
Sunday Times bestselling author and Strictly Come Dancing star, Anton du Beke said of Glenda’s novel Deadly Dancing at the Seaview Hotel: “I loved Glenda's book and her characters – perfect for all fans of dance, mystery and cosy escapism.”
“Perhaps we should cast Anton in that episode when we shoot it,” said Marc.
Nova Mundi is developing this show with Sky’s Brassic Series producer Mike Noble.
