These are some of the celebrities that were included on this year’s New Year Honours list.

Actress Sheila Hancock received a damehood for services to drama and charity. Hancock is best known for her appearances in film and television, including The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, A Discovery of Witches and Delicious. She has also appeared in a number of theatrical productions, including starring in Sister Act the Musical which ran at the London Palladium.
Singer, songwriter and music producer Craig David has been awarded an MBE for services to music. David has earned 43 award nominations over the course of his career, and won 12, including the Pop International award from Goldene Kamera, Songwriter of the Year from Ivor Novello Awards and Best R&B from MTV Europe Music Awards.

Screenwriter and producer Jed Mercurio has been made an OBE for his services to television drama. Mercurio is a British television writer, producer, director and novelist. He is best known for creating BBC police procedural, Line of Duty, for which he has won a number of awards, including a British Screenwriters’ Award.
Former Eastenders actress Nina Wadia has been recognised with an OBE for her services to entertainment and to charity. She is best known for playing Zainab Masood in Eastenders, but also appeared in the likes of BBC sketch show Goodness Gracious Me and The Vicar of Dibley.
Sally Dynevor has been made an MBE for her services to drama. The British actress is best known for her role as Sally Webster in the ITV soap Coronation Street, which she has been in since 1986.
Actress Lesley Maville has been made a CBE for services to drama and charity. She won the London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Supporting Actress of the Year for her performance in period drama Phantom Thread, where she starred alongside Daniel Day-Lewis.
Actor Toby Jones has been made an OBE for his services to drama. The English actor first broke onto the scene with his role as Truman Capote in the biopic Infamous. Since then, Jones has appeared in the likes of The Hunger Games, Harry Potter and Doctor Who. He won a Best Male Comedy BAFTA for his role in Detectorists.
Seven time Formula 1 winner Lewis Hamilton was given a knighthood. He credited his success in 2020 to a new determination inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement. Hamilton holds a number of Formula 1 records, including Most World Championships, Most Career Wins and Most Wins in a Debut Season.
Two time Oscar award winning cinematographer Roger Deakins, who is based in California, was knighted in the overseas list. The English cinematographer has received 15 Academy Award nominations over the course of his career, winning for the films Blade Runner 2049 and war epic 1917.
Rob Burrow is a former professional rugby player, and has received an MBE for services to rugby, and to Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Awareness during Covid-19. In December 2019, it was publicly revealed that Burrow had been diagnosed with MND, two years after he had retired.
