Young performers from across Yorkshire coast prepare for red carpet film premiere at cinema
Young people from across the Yorkshire coast are being given the chance to experience the magic of a Hollywood-style film premiere – and it all starts with joining PQA (Pauline Quirke Academy) this term.
Students who join PQA Scarborough now will take part in a red carpet cinema screening at Cineworld York, where original short films created by the students will be shown on the big screen.

From writing and directing to filming, lighting, sound and acting, PQA students are involved in every stage of the filmmaking process, gaining hands-on experience rarely available at this age.
James Aconley, principal of PQA Scarborough, said: “Our cinema screenings are always one of our favourite events for the students. They get a real glimpse of what it feels like to star in or work behind the scenes on their very own film.

“Seeing their work on the big screen is so exciting. Students and their families all get dressed up for a red carpet event complete with Oscar statues and a photographer, it is an experience they never forget.”
PQA is a leading national performing arts academy founded by Pauline Quirke and her family, with academies across the UK. Despite its national reputation, PQA Scarborough remains local.
James, who opened PQA Scarborough 12 years ago, in his hometown is an experienced professional singer. Alongside his wife Nat, he now runs a group of award-winning Pauline Quirke Academies in Scarborough, Hull, Beverley and York.
PQA Scarborough is based at Scarborough College every Sunday morning and offers training in musical theatre, comedy, drama, film and television for young people aged six to 18.
For younger children, PQA Poppets classes are available for ages four to six, introducing the foundations of performing arts through fun, imaginative play.
James said: “While PQA is a nationally recognised brand, what makes our schools special is that they are rooted in the local community.
“We are incredibly proud to offer children and young people from Scarborough and the surrounding areas opportunities that can genuinely inspire their futures - whether they dream of the stage, screen or simply growing in confidence.”
