The event has been organised by Backfire, in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Visit East Yorkshire team. It will see an array of vintage European and Americana Hot-Rod vehicles and motorcycles racing in pairs, along a 200-yard course along the beach.
It will also include two days of racing on South Beach on Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13.
The event draws inspiration from East Yorkshire beach’s history as the setting for the earliest UK land speed record attempts and has held in Bridlington since 2018.
Attractions will include a static auto-show, organised by Bridlington Lions, on South Marine Drive. A variety of vintage and classic vehicles will be on display at the auto-show, along with a selection of refreshment and community-run stalls along Princess Mary Promenade. Visitors will also be able to pick up copies of the limited-edition souvenir brochure and event merchandise.
There’s no charge for visitors to enjoy the beach racing or the Auto-Show and all attractions are easily accessible on foot.
The festivities will include ‘The Ken Fox Troupe and their amazing vintage Wall of Death’ show, between Bridlington Spa and the RNLI, and Tank Rides on Bridlington South Beach on Saturday and Sunday.
There will also be a Yorkshire Events Bars 1966 Bristol Lodekka Double Decker, near the RNLI, offering refreshments.
An added bonus for visitors will see Bridlington Spa host the WSW Steampunk Emporium, open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
The family-friendly festival will take place in the Royal Hall, with be entertainment, presentations, workshops, authors and stalls selling Steampunk accessories. Admission is free and Steampunk attire is welcome in all the public areas.
Councillor Nick Coultish, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Tourism said: “Race the Waves is a fantastic event, providing entertainment and spectacle for residents and visitors, and highlighting Bridlington’s stunning coastline.
“We encourage everyone to attend this superb free festival, suitable for all the family.”
