Scarborough Community Choir has announced the world premiere of Cold Wind, a newly composed Christmas carol written especially for the choir by musical director Bill Scott and his wife Jan.

The debut will take place on Saturday, December 7 during the annual Toy and Carol Celebration, hosted by the Scarborough Rotary Club at Westborough Methodist Church.

Cold Wind is a reflective and heart-warming musical journey told through the perspective of a wandering winter wind.

Beginning as a chill breeze moving through a quiet Yorkshire town “looking for love,” the wind passes shops, streets, and a small school where children sing songs of joy, peace, and Gloria.

These voices gradually warm the wind, awakening memories of the night it once drifted into a humble stable in Bethlehem, witnessing the birth of Jesus.

As the carol unfolds, the cold wind finds its way back to warmth, love, and the true spirit of Christmas – brought to life through the voices of the Scarborough Community Choir and the vibrancy of local children’s singing.

Bill Scott, composer and musical director, said: “Jan and I wanted to create a piece that captures both the tenderness of the nativity and the magic of Christmas in our own Yorkshire towns. Cold Wind is about rediscovering love through community, memory, and the power of music.”

The Toy and Carol Celebration is a longstanding festive event in Scarborough, bringing together families, community groups, and music lovers. Attendees are encouraged to bring a toy donation to support local children in need this Christmas season.

Scarborough Community Choir brings together singers of all ages and backgrounds, performing across the town at concerts, charity events, and community celebrations.

Under the direction of Bill Scott, the choir is committed to sharing the joy of singing and fostering musical creativity within the local community.
